TODAYS EMAIL: The first RAM to take place in Lee County was held - TopicsExpress

TODAYS EMAIL: The first RAM to take place in Lee County was held at the Lee County Airport in Jonesville this past Saturday and Sunday. RAM was AWESOME! I thought RAM in Wise was great and it is, but during this RAM, it was overwhelming to see family’s assisted with vision and dental care. Granted, it wasn’t as large of an event as the one in Wise, over 500 were served! PHOTOS SHOWN: We arrived at the airport on Friday to set up, just in time to see a crew move the historic C-47 plane that flew in the Normandy D-Day Invasion on June 6, 1944. The RAM plane is used to bring in medical supplies for the event. The photos show a few of the crowd, my daughter Tracy, me taking selfies in the van and Daisy Duke posing for me in front of our drug board, sporting a red scarf from the thrift store. My daughter and I set up our information table at RAM and I about froze on Saturday! I dressed like the weather was on Friday loading the van, hot humid and sweaty! An hour after we set up our information table, I was so cold I think hibernation was setting in. I went to the van to warm up, so I could finish out the day and then I took selfie pictures. About 30 minutes later, the weather was a bit warmer enough for me to be comfortable for a wonderful day at RAM. RAM, (Remote Area Medical®) provides medical clinics, or expeditions in the U.S. and abroad, giving free dental, vision, & medical services by volunteer licensed health practitioners. It was a good day sharing education about substance abuse in this community. We gave away so much literature, we now have to restock! In addition to literature, we gave away clothing and the remainder of the school supplies left from the summer. Clothing and school supplies were gone in 30 minutes! Our drug board always draws a crowd from those passing the table. People can’t help but stop and look. This gives us the opportunity to talk about substance abuse and what can be done. Many would stop and then they would go and get a family member to share with them all the drug information on the board. I am blessed to assist individuals and families with education on substance abuse …and then the next day, I have to change my hat to fundraiser to provide the programs and services that fight substance abuse. Like the cold that came in Saturday, our yearly expenses come around at this time, as well. We need $400 to pay these expenses. Could you help? A gift of any amount would be appreciated.
