TODAY’S BIBLE THOUGHT: BEATTITUDES PT 4: Hunger and thirst for righteousness MATTHEW 5:6 = Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. This is a very powerful verse!!! At 1st glance it might sound like it is simply describing someone who is trying to do what is right. However, it goes deeper. The key words here are the words “hunger and thirst”. This is describing a deep passion. Physical hunger and thirst are two driving forces for physical survival Therefore, this is describing consuming drive and desire to be close to God. It’s a passion to live a life dedicated to Jesus Christ. God has promised to fill or satisfy those who have this burning desire to do His will. Jesus said in John 10:10 “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full”. God wants us to have a full, happy life through Him. Things won’t be perfect. Just like everyone else in this world, we will experience hardship, loss, and challenges which seem to knock us off our feet. However, through living a life for Christ, we can still have joy through these experiences. This is the life which people who “hunger and thirst for righteousness will experience. Self Examination Time: This is such a great verse. However, how do we get this burning desire to do God’s will? It simply comes through spiritual growth and maturity. So it begins with commitment to being obedient God. Then, as our spiritual walk is guided by the Holy Spirit, He leads our actions, and gives us a passion to serve Him. The more we serve Him; the closer our relationship with Him becomes; the more joy and satisfaction we will experience. I challenge you this morning. If you are a Christian who is not living a life for Jesus Christ, you are missing out. Decide to serve Him. Jesus Christ has made a HUGE difference in my attitude toward life, and toward people.
