TODAY’S BIBLE VERSE: Blessed and fortunate and happy and - TopicsExpress

TODAY’S BIBLE VERSE: Blessed and fortunate and happy and spiritually prosperous (in that state in which the born-again child of God enjoys His favor and salvation) are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God), for they shall be completely satisfied! (Matthew 5:6 AMP) TODAY’S LESSON: Nothing is more apparent in this day and age than how gluttonous we have become as a human race. It’s no wonder the economy looks the way in does all over the World. I believe its God’s way of putting the brakes on! For example, every year Apple releases a new iPhone. It never ceases to amaze me how early or how long people are willing to stand in line to get it the moment it’s released. You would think that it’s an antique that is going to run out in a couple of hours! Last year they released the iPhone 5 and in the next couple of months they will be releasing the iPhone 6. I’m sure all those iPhone 5 owners who were so elated to have got it and couldn’t stop raving about their new phone are already feeling restless knowing that there’s going to be a newer, faster maybe even smaller version of what they already have and this does not sit well with them! This has always made me wonder, what does it take to satisfy us? We always think that having more, faster, smaller etc. will make us happy and satisfied. It certainly makes us happy for a little while, but it never seems enough to satisfy us. Today, I was reading a devotional and the topic was about “the beatitudes” (Matthew 5:3-11). I always prefer to read the Bible in the Amplified version because it really sheds a new light to the verse. When I read this verse, it was my “aha moment” (as Oprah calls it!)! As human beings, we love to chase after the tangible stuff, like money, clothes, shoes, cars etc. and we always think that the more we have, the more satisfied we will feel. But I now know and understand that these things were clearly created to make our lives easier, not to bring us satisfaction. God created us in His own image and to serve Him. This is why there is so much satisfaction in the intangible, like giving, loving, taking care of others, etc. If you have ever tried to do any of the intangible stuff, I am sure that you know what I mean when I talk about feeling fully satisfied. Jesus said, “Seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides. – Matthew 6:33 AMP. In this verse, Jesus is not only emphasizing the importance of seeking righteousness, but He also tells us that if we seek the intangible, then the tangible will be given to us. It’s clear that we have flipped the script and need to flip it back to what we’ve been instructed to do if we want to satisfy our souls. TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: “I seek and strive for righteousness because it’s what my soul needs to feel satisfied.” © 2013 graceandthought - See more at: graceandthought/are-you-satisfied-grace-and-thought/#sthash.gi6AdaCx.dpuf
