TOLEDO VOTERS: On a purely economic standpoint, why would the black community support having money taken from their table to put it on the tables of other people and not have a chance of getting it back......e on my people! VOTE NO ON THE TPS LEVY!!!! Toledo Public Schools wants the black community to pass this levy, yet they refuse to hire from the black community and our schools are over 50% black students. TPS is the fifth largest employee in Lucas County and the largest employer in Toledo. Out of approximately 3700 employees, only 650 are black. There are ONLY 134 teachers, 65 substitute teachers (no job security), 60 Food Service workers, 100 Para’s, 20 coaches (most hired this school year), 36 custodians, 68 employees in transportation and around 100 Administrators. The African American Parents’ Association has been fighting this battle with TPS to recruit, hire and retain black teachers for 10 years when we saw that black teachers were disappearing but our pleas have fallen on deaf ears. The ramifications of not having diversity in the school house takes a horrific toll on our community. YET, TPS WANTS OUR VOTE! Historically the white community does not vote for school levies. The black community is just the opposite. UNTIL TPS HIRES FROM OUR COMMUNITY, just say NO! ~ Twila Page 11/3/2013
