TOP MALAYALAM ACTORS OF THE DECADE (2001-2010) ♦The decade was not that good for Malayalam film industry when compared to the previous decades. The last one (1991-2000) was the best, considered as the golden one. Most number of hits was born in that period. Undoubtedly the man of the previous decade was Mohanlal, who delivered maximum hits followed by Mammootty, Suresh Gopi and Jayaram. 1. MAMMOOTTY The megastar of malayalam showed why he is called so. He did the same which he had been doing for last 30 years. He started off the decade quite loosely, had no hits in the first 2 years .Then came back strongly through sidhique’s ‘chronic bachelor. He got 53 releases this decade. Out of them became 15 super-hits, 16 average and 22 flops. The super-hits were: Chronic Bachelor Sethurama Iyer CBI Kaazhcha Vesham Thommanum Makkalum Rajamanikyam Thuruppu Gulan Mayavi Katha Parayumpol Annan Thambi Twenty:20 Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja Pokkiri Raja Pranchiyettan and the Saint Best Actor (as per initial reports) ♦The major films in the list of average hits were chattampinadu, loudspeaker, Big B, Roudram, Rappakal, Rakshasarajavu etc 2. DILEEP Malayalis doesn’t like to see dileep as a star, they like him as their neighbor boy. Still he was able to provide large number of hits. He ruled the box office single handedly for the first 3 years of the decade when mohanlal and mammootty failed. He had 50 films in the decade, out of which 14 turned to be super hits and 17 average and rest 19 bombed at the box-office. Top malayalam actors of the decade Dileep The super-hits were: Ee Parakkum Thalika Ishtam Kunjikkoonan Kuberan Meesha Madhavan Kalyanaraman C.I.D. Moosa Runway Chanthupottu Lion Vinodayathra Twenty:20 Passenger Marykkondoru Kunjadu (as per initial reports) ♦Major films in the list of average films are karyasthan, pappy appacha, bodyguard etc 2 films, meesamadhavan and twenty-20 were among the record breaking hits of the decade. 3. MOHANLAL The decade was not that good for the ‘prince of kerala’. Lalettan was not able to deliver lots as he did in the previous decade. Still he had pretty good number of hits. He neither got a good start nor good end for the decade. But towards the middle of the decade, he got 5 consecutive super-hits which is a rare achievement. Among his 55 malayalam films, 12 were super-hits, 17 average and 26 flops. The super-hits were: Ravanaprabhu Balettan Udayananu Tharam Naran Thanmathra Rasathanthram Vadakkum Nathan Keerthi Chakra Chota Mumbai Hello Madambi Twenty:20 ♦There are large number of good films which got average hit status. Some of them were Ividam swargamanu, Shikkar, Bhramaram, innathe chinthavishayam etc The actor who gave 5 record-breakers last year was not able to deliver one other than the multi-starred twenty-20. 4. PRITHVIRAJ The decade witnessed the rise of the ‘Young superstar’. Most of us consider him as the next generation superstar. He is the growing sensation among the teenage girls. He got nearly 50 films out of which 7 became super-hits, and 8 were average grosser and rest 34 flops. The stats are good for an actor at his young stage. The super-hits were: Nandanam Swapnakoodu Anandabhadram Classmates Chocolate Puthiya Mugham Pokkiri Raja ♦Classmates turned out to be a turning point for him, which broke the collection records 5. JAYARAM Jayaram is one of the all time favorite actor for the family audiences. But the decade is one which is not at all pleasing. The last 3 years brought him few hits, rest was a long series of flops. ♦Among his 51 films, only 7 were included in super-hits, 5 average hits and nearly 40 flops which is quite embarrassing. The super-hits were: Yathrakarude Sradhakku Ente Veedu Appuvinteyum Manassinakkare Veruthe Oru Bharya Twenty:20 Bhagyadevatha Happy Husbands 6. SURESH GOPi The roaring-superstar of Malayalam is towards the end of his carrier as per the stats. Among 47 films only 4 of them turned to be super-hits, 8 average grosser and 35 flops.
