TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING - SOUTHEAST QUEENSLAND for DESTRUCTIVE WIND and LARGE HAILSTONES For people in parts of the BRISBANE CITY, LOCKYER VALLEY, GYMPIE, MORETON BAY, IPSWICH CITY, SOUTHERN DOWNS, SUNSHINE COAST, SCENIC RIM, SOMERSET, SOUTH BURNETT and CHERBOURG SHIRE Council Areas. Issued at 5:21 pm Wednesday, 13 November 2013. Severe thunderstorms are forecast to affect the area south of Esk, southern Lake Wivenhoe and Goomeri by 5:50 pm and Mount Nebo, the DAguilar Ranges and Elgin Vale by 6:20 pm. The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 5:20 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Urbenville(NSW), the area south of the NSW border and the NSW border. They are forecast to affect Borumba Dam by 5:50 pm and Mount Barney, the area south of Cunninghams Gap and the area west of Conondale by 6:20 pm. Destructive winds and large hailstones are likely. Emergency Management Queensland advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 6:20 pm. A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Darling Downs and Granite Belt and parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West, Wide Bay and Burnett, Maranoa and Warrego and Southeast Coast districts. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureaus website at bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 219. The Bureau and Emergency Management Queensland would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly. (Mark QFES)
