TOUCH A LIFE Touch a Life Hmmm, SEGUN was really new at this but the thing is that he was starting to get use to the program and all. His first Community development service was at the skekudu hall in a small town. Truth is that he was not really in the mood to attend it but it was compulsory for everyone. He didnt want to start his service year with a query. He was not new in the environment since I was posted to Sokoto. The meeting was about to start when one young lady walked into the hall. She was looking so pretty, she was the definition of beauty and what made me more interested was the fact that she was without makeup. I really appreciated her for it. The meeting started and the minute of the previous general meeting was read. As the minute was read the young lady was busy on her iPad and listening to music at maximum volume. The real reason Segun couldnt approach her was the fact that he was intrigued and he just didnt know the way to approach her. He didnt want her to snob him but he needed to get her attention and soon they were to decide on the NYSC project to embark on. She was quiet almost all through until it was time to decided on the money for the project. They planned on renovating a school and most of them were not aware of the main reason they chose the school but the young girl was so passionate about renovating it. Suddenly a young man stood and I must confess I thought he wanted to suggest the price. That was how he came up with the most absurd plan but the annoying thing was every other Corper saw it has a very good plan. They were willing because the cost of the project will reduce. That was how the sweet Lady just voiced out about it and few others supported but she needed few more to join the campaign. The guy came up with the idea that they make notice boards in different schools but that didnt seem like a community development. This really upset the young lady and after voting the people that supported the notice board won the vote. The young lady stood up and she wasnt ready to give up on the other project. she asked if we knew the reason why they chose that school and most people didnt? She introduced herself and her name is Corper Chinwe Akanya. I have been serving in the school you intend to innovate. They didnt even allow her to finish that statement and they started having side talks no wonder she wanted to have that development but that didnt discourage her. She went on to tell us they didnt have chairs in that school, that kids sits on the floor and when its raining they learn in the raining, the roofs are bad and it drips in the class. We cant let them suffer cause right now they need our helping hand. Those are the less privileged and if we need to touch someone, it should be their hearts. We could have the notice boards hanging in their schools but you wont have touched anyones life. We talk about change for our country, we should start by making changes my fellow corpers. The Local government Inspector stood to clap for the young miss and others joined. It made me love her even more. We should learn to think of others and each time we wanna make changes, let it touch a life else you havent made a change.
