TOWARDS THE EDGE OF BUFFOONERY To the extent that it is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish between the NDC and NPP, the two leading parties in Ghana, I agree with Kwame Kyei-baffour when he writes: For every wrong policy or misbehaviour, that comes from a ruling government, the opposition must, at the minimum, be able to offer a critique of the policy or misbehaviour in question, and more importantly, suggest a better alternative to the problem targeted by the alleged wrong policy or created by the alleged misbehaviour. But effective and responsible opposition goes beyond that: it is PROACTIVE , and mainly primed to guide and prompt ruling governments on/to identified problems and their solutions. An opposition that discovers its voice only on issues that make the ruling government look bad (and which in most cases are already obviously so to the electorate) is USELESS. The synonym for opposition in a democratic dispensation is alternative government.. A party that is ready to rule , and which wants to be taken seriously would take to heart its function and responsibilities as the other or better option. The NPPs behaviour in opposition is a testimony to the bankruptcy and vacuity of the democratic value and related utility of the 4th Republic. They and the NDC are all ELECTIONS-ORIENTED, POWER-HUNGRY, LOOTING MERCHANTS. They are BELLYCENTRIC , OPPORTUNISTIC, NAVEL-GAZING EXPLOITATIVE PROFITEERS! I have reached a point where I cannot afford any untouchables . You know what to do therefore, if you cannot stand a criticism of the NPP. Ciao
