[TRANS] 141129 Leehoos interview with STARDAILYNEWS (article link: stardailynews.co.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=45243 ) Title: Moon Junyoung Wanted to highlight ZE:As music ZE:A Moon Junyoungie had successfully debuted in front of 100 fans as a DJ artiste of E.D.M (and under the name) ZE:After (Z:After). On the 28th, 9pm, at a club in Seoul Gangnam, Yeoksam-dong, Moon Junyoung had first stood on the stage as an artiste of E.D.M (Electronic Dance Music), which is a world-wide trend genre of TheA, and under the name Ze:After. The name ZE:After is a combination of the name ZE:A, and the English meaning of Moon Junyoungs stage name Leehoo, which means After. Moon Junyoung, who had done up his spectacular DJ debut stage among the fans cheers, had frankly shared about himself as an artiste. Q: Was (being a) Electronic Dance Music DJ a field which youve wanted to try/do from the start? A: I had slightly learnt (to DJ) in the past, Ive later met and learnt from hyungs who DJ-ed(.) It was something which started due the hyungs recommendation(,) and it became a great chance (for me). Q: When was the exact time when you first started (DJ-ing)? A: The touching/feeling around while doing music and editing had been for around 1 year and a half. We have a turntable box in the practice room so I played music on my own and started to play around with it(,)(this) had been about 6 months ago. Even though people might think that 6 months is be a bit too short/fast for people who DJ, Ive practiced for about 12 hours a day. Q: Had you been wanting to show your DJ-ing (skills) ever since youve planned your performance to be at a small theater? A: Its not like that. Originally, Ive wanted to sing at a small theater where dramas/plays (were performed). Even though the sound at a club is good, its not a good place for singing live. Despite the sound (effects) being the most suitable in a club, the mic sound (effects) arent good. Ive originally wanted to do DJ-ing in a place like this and Ive promised the fans to do a small theater performance, so I ended up doing both altogether. Q: Your singing skills seemed to have improved.. A: Ive always sang like this. Hahaha. My parts in ZE:As songs were short so I didnt have the chance to show it. Q: How do you feel meeting the fans after such a long time? A: I thank the fans for coming despite (the event) being at such a late timing. It was unfortunate that only the ones who are above 19 can enter. The (idea) of drawing celebrity/entertainer contents into a club and performing (at a club) itself wasnt welcomed. There were the postition/perspective of the clubs and that of mine, we werent able to do (the event) according to our (original) intentions. I am sorry for not thinking till that point/extent, causing the younger fans to be unable to make it/come. Q: Was it your intention to use many of your colleague singers music/songs like Growl (by EXO) and Crooked (by G-Dragon)? A: Its a genre called mashup(,) instead of playing the original electronic music like I did when I did the showcase together with the fans(,) I thought that I should play songs that fans know to a certain extent, so I made an addition. Ive also did the intro using ZE:As song(,) Level Up. The songs guitar sound/sounding is strong. Its a good song. We had a live band to perform (this song) when we did our first solo concert last year(,) it was the most exciting part. Q: Aiming for an asia tour(,) was it on purpose (for you) to use other colleague singers songs? A: Its not like that. There was a repertory yesterday. My teacher is a 1st-generation DJ, SoUL(.) He said/suggested to combine Kpop with E.D.M(,) so a repertory was put together/formed. Even though Ive tried using a ZE:A song(,) the bpm itself was too slow and it was hard to do a mashup. To be honest, other than Aftermath, there isnt really another (ZE:A) song that can get the audience to follow/sing along, but Aftermath is too slow, and even though Mazeltov would be a better fit(,) *I thought that it might be too much so Ive removed it due to my conscience. Even though a lot of our title songs are by Brave Brothers(,) if we exclude SISTARs song from Brave Brothers songs(,) they wont match with club music. Q: How many points would you give yourself for your stage/performance? A: About 50 points. There were actually more repertories, but due to time constraint, I couldnt show everything. There are parts which are a pity (as I didnt manage show). Q: Would the tour in the future be like todays form/format? A: No. From now on, it is planned for the stages/performances to be just DJ music. Even though (the members of) ZE:A are currently doing individual activities(,) theyre people who do good music and (are people who) do better than me. Though I am not a main vocal, its not that I have improved in singing, but its because (of the fact that) I honestly didnt have many chances to show it. There was a greed to highlight (our) music. Anyway, even though (ZE:A) had became a topic one, two months ago, other people didnt really care about it. I wanted to show that ZE:A is also doing music activities/promotions. ZE:A is my main while (being a) DJ is my sub. Its something which I love doing and since I dont have a place for me to vent my anger, its something which allows me to do so through music. Q: How did the members show their support? A: They asked me when did I learn (to DJ) without them knowing and said that even though they wanted to come down personally to support and cheer for me, they couldnt come due to their many individual schedules. Dongjunnie came and went during rehearsals(,) even at times where I wasnt there. The members are really kind/nice to that extent. Q: You did activities while being in a composition team called Super Market(,) and youre now also a part of the DJ team. You seem to be able to be even more ambitious when it comes to composing and music... A: In my composing team(,) composing music would need me to play things like real sound(,) keyboard(,) drum(,) piano etc. along with a guide(,) but I was a little weak when it comes to **MIDI. I personally think that I learnt to DJ faster than learning MIDI. Club music itself needs a lot of sources. E.D.M is the general trend (nowadays) so I thought that by learning it, I would be able to know about the future trends. After gathering 5 foreign DJs whom I had difficulties communicating with, we did a festival (together)(,) people matched the tempo/beats and went crazy. The reason is that (people) are able to become one through music. There arent much DJ-ing which could graft K-pop together with it. After doing a lot of this music, I have a greed/ambition for wanting to do a genre for K-pop and E.D.M, which would be called K-E.D.M. Q: As a DJ, what is Moon Junyoungs goal? A: In order to get into next years Ultra Music Festival (UMF), Ive signed (an agreement) and also working hard. The public may not know but people who do DJ-ing are sharp so I am currently receiving training from a professional DJ. Since Ive received a love call from a world-wide DJ(,) there would be good news sooner or later. Q: There are worries that this would be something (which would cause you) to drift from ZE:A. What do you think about this? A: They are people who do things diligently/work hard, even for their individual activities(,) and we believe in each other. The relationship between the kids is good(,) and even if separated(,) we would still support each other. Its an opportunity to work even harder after receiving resilience from there. There is no gap between the members who have made it big and the members who didnt. We dont compete among the members. We wont be swayed by the publics gaze/eyes. Because they are people who work hard and honestly, in the future I would like let them know this too. *Dont really understand this sentence though, sorry! **MIDI = Musical Instrument Digital Interface
