TRIBUTE TO MY LOST BEST FRIEND AGNES DONKOH as you are LAID TO RESTBY: BENNY ARKHURST BENEDICT ARKHURST The last enemy that shall be destroyed is DEATH(1 Corinthians 15:26), the sudden, painful, untimely and unbelievable death of my endeared, cherished and best friend Agnes Donkoh keeps me cogitating, why is death not the first enemy to be destroyed. O death where is your sting? O grave where is your victory? But certainly in everything we will give thanks unto our GOD who gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Agnes you were very sweet, caring and loving. Your death has left a tunnel of darkness and pain in my heart. Darkness flooded my soul, a murky cloud overshadowed my day, and a blistering wind of sorrow filled my sight as the news of your demise reached me in a very far place in the country. “Eeeii Ben, Eeeii Ben, so you won’t come and visit me was the last words you sent me when I told you I had travelled to a far place in the upper east region two days before your death. These words flashed my memory as I broke down in tears and regret as I reminisced how I kept postponing my visit because of the tightness of my work schedule of which you always comprehended me. We planned of meeting that very weekend of your demise after my journey back from the north, not knowing man proposes but God disposes. Agnes, little did I know that you wanted me to feel your last presence and bid me farewell from this uncertain world of struggles, pains, sufferings and its associated sorrows. Agnes, the storms of death blew too early in your direction; you were always filled with smiles and derision which gave me hope and strength in thorny moments when times became hard. I never saw you angry, the last time you told me you were angry with someone you were smiling and laughing and I asked you that how can you be smiling and laughing in your angry mood and we both broke into laughter. Agnes in your anger you taught me to love and show love, in your pains and hurt you taught me to forgive and show forgiveness. The love and forgiveness we both shared and preached whenever we met is the best legacy that you have left me in perpetuity. I will carry on with this Christian manliness and be reminded that life is indeed short. Agnes who will I pick from work to home again; Agnes who will I pick from house to church again; Agnes what happens to the things we planned early this year; what happens to the good plans Ben had in store for you; Agnes who is going to reap what you sowed and was ripe to harvest; Agnes who is going to take care of Ewurama Biney you have left behind; Agnes why do you leave us this early; Agnes How can we continue life without a trace of you; Agnes death didn’t treat you fairly but as I mourned and wept, in my desperation for answers, a voice whispered to me How can you question God, the voice said to my spirit “It is not how long you lived, but how well you lived”. Your life has touched the profoundness of my heart, the trace of relishment you brought to my life is incomparable, the beauty of friendship and comradeship we shared is beyond measure, the pain you have left in my soul cannot be healed, the struggles and sorrows you shared but still fought to the end will be my strength and inspiration, your passion to see me succeed shaped the foundations of a purpose-driven of my life. I am sorry you couldn’t live long to fulfil your dreams, I am sorry you couldn’t live long enough to see what your husband, friends and family hard in store for you. My solace is in the fact that your faith in Jesus Christ has earned you a place in Heaven and as I bid you farewell you are in the arms of the father, Agnes till we meet again in the resurrection I wish you a safe journey. Damirifa Due, I love you and I will forever remember the moments we shared. Fare thee well a true and an incomparable sister, friend and a loved one. Rest in Perfect Peace Agnes Donkoh.
