TROOP A NEWS RELEASE May 30, 2014 Excessive Speed Possible Factor in Iberville Parish Fatal Crash White Castle – Shortly before 8:30 am on May 30, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 1 south of LA Hwy 995 in Iberville Parish. The crash took the life of 20 year old Jye J. Mitchell of Donaldsonville, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Mitchell was driving a 2005 Toyota Camry northbound on LA Hwy 1. For unknown reasons Mitchell’s Toyota ran off the roadway to the right and struck a utility pole on the passenger side. Mitchell suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash, and at this time it is unknown whether or not he was properly restrained. Driver impairment is not suspected; however, a toxicology sample was taken from Mitchell and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Excessive speed is considered to be a factor, and this crash remains under investigation. Although not all crashes are survivable, Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Contact Information: TFC Jared L.
