TROOP L - NEWS RELEASE July 8, 2014 Mississippi Resident Killed in Tangipahoa Parish Crash Tangipahoa, LA- Shortly after 3:00 pm this afternoon, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash at the intersection of LA 1057 and LA 1061 near the Village of Tangipahoa. The crash took the life of a passenger, 40 year old Marcus Ingram of Tupelo, MS. Troopers’ investigation revealed that the crash occurred as a 2013 Ford F-150, driven by 29 year old Mark Konzelman of Osyka, MS, was stopped in the southbound lane of LA 1061 at its intersection with LA 1057. After coming to a stop, Konzelman attempted to turn left onto LA 1057 failing to yield to oncoming traffic and entering into the path of an eastbound 2005 Peterbilt 18 wheeler. Upon entering the intersection, the Ford F-150 was struck on its passenger side by the Peterbilt resulting in both vehicles leaving the paved roadway and coming to rest approximately 200 feet from the intersection. Konzelman received moderate injuries in the crash. Front seat passenger in the Ford pickup, Ingram, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office. Driver of the Peterbilt 18 wheeler, 52 year old Richard Powers of Kentwood, LA, was not injured in the crash. All occupants were properly restrained at the time of the crash and impairment is not suspected pending toxicology analysis. Charges are pending for driver of the Ford F-150, Mark Konzelman, upon further consultation with the Tangipahoa Parish District Attorney’s Office. Troopers remind motorist that the vast majority of motor vehicle crashes are preventable through driver vigilance, avoiding distractions, and never driving while impaired or fatigued. In addition, while not all crashes are survivable, the proper use of seatbelts and restraint devices greatly improves occupants’ chances of survival through allowing the body to “ride” down the forces of the crash in a controlled deceleration.
