TRUST BUT VERIFY: If someone is twenty years old and wants to make bad decisions in life, no one can really talk them out of it. But if someone is thirty, thirty five, forty or older.......they......we should know better. We dont sign apartment leases with people we arent married to. We dont add the names of our new love of three months on our credit cards. We dont finance a car, boat, house or a spaceship with people we arent married too. These days lots of people want to stay unmarried, thats fine of course but they should be single in the finances and responsibilities too. One of the most frustrating things I do as a lawyer is deal, most often with good hearted, charming women, whose former boyfriends or live in honeys are now screwing their lives up. The laws are written to protect married people for the most part. Single people making bad decisions is legal mess thats more expensive to get out of than it was to get into.
