TRUST IN GOD - AND USE YOUR BRAINS! “When (the mother) could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile. His sister stood at a distance to see what would happen to him”. Ex 2:3, 4 (NIV) Sometimes we talk as if to have faith involves suspending your normal thinking processes. And indeed it does happen that having faith enables one sometimes to understand things that seem impossible to human reasoning. But believing in God and in Jesus does not mean that you have to suspend your normal intelligence. It is always good to keep your wits about you. Moses’ mother hid him for a while, and exercised considerable resourcefulness. She knew that her Israelite baby was a gift from God and that she could not just abandon him to the evil designs of the Pharaoh. Masses of reeds grew on the banks of the Nile. She reckoned that he would be safer there, away from the residential area. So she carefully covered him up in a basket of papyrus, waterproofed it, and placed it in an area, where no doubt, not too many people walked. She trusted God, and used her brains. There is such a thing as “sanctified common sense”. It means out of faith you use your knowledge, skills and wisdom to glorify God. Whatever intelligence, experience or wisdom you have, do not neglect to use it for the glory of God and in the service of Christ. Indeed use all your powers, whether of intellectual knowledge, of manual, musical, or artistic skill to glorify Jesus Christ. - Faith for Daily Living.
