TUES-Day here in our beautiful Village of East Aurora NY…and in many other locales it is feelin’ like “Summertime” in AMERICA, CANADA…and possibly in KUWAIT, AUSTRALIA, GHANA, the UNITED KINGDOM, the WORLD…Well, thinkin’ back to the 1960’s and a HIT from the MOTOWN record company that started in DETROIT, Michigan…Now, we ALL know about the STARS who recorded there, BUT, without a group of creative-excellent STUDIO MUSICIANS that “knew how to put the background, the beat, etc. together” YOU and I probably would have NEVER heard of MOTOWN or any of the HITS!!!...Those “guys with the beat, the arrangements” were THE FUNK BROTHERS, not an official name or a “household known name”…that’s what they called themselves…Circa 2003, a documentary called STANDING IN THE SHADOWS OF MOTOWN was released (it’s available on DVD …you can either buy it or find it at your local library or elsewhere)…This is excerpted from that documentary and includes the song, done in this case by a “today” singer JOAN OSBORNE…Joan Elizabeth Osborne (born July 8, 1962) an American singer-songwriter and interpreter of music, having recorded and performed in various popular American musical genres including pop, soul, R&B, blues and country…This so-soulful young lady was just a baby when the song was originally done by Martha Reeves & the Vandellas!....This song was a long running “theme song” for our Pierre & The Citations Band (when I played Tenor Sax and Peter-pierre Figuccio sang, Larry Cornwell played Hammond B3 organ along with some other great musicians in my Binghamton NY metro area “hometown” way back in the 1960’s)…The song is “HEATWAVE”…Lets enjoy this fine on stage version…with JOAN OSBORNE and some of the surviving FUNK BROTHERS !!! youtube/watch?v=q-PNmGMTD-s
