TUESDAY, 10/28/14 GOSPELS. Matthew 10:28 “Nothing to Fear!”(By Barry) WORSHIP: https://youtube/watch?v=h3rNu7iTB-I SCRIPTURE: blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=Mat&c=10&t=NLT#s=939028 Fear. We fear many things, don’t we? What are YOU afraid of? —Are you afraid of things? (Spiders? Roller coasters? Snakes? Heights? —Are you afraid of certain people? (Bullies? Unfair coaches or teachers? Criminals?) Some fear is perfectly natural. In fact, we could say certain kinds of fear is what keeps us alive, right? On the other hand, the Bible has some interesting things to say about fear. First, in today’s main passage, here are some words from Jesus: 28 “Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell Honestly, this is a crazy passage. You know why? Because again, it is perfectly natural to fear someone who wants to kill you, that’s why? But the secret is, they can kill only your body, not the real you! Jesus reminds us that our soul, the person we REALLY are, can only be destroyed in hell. Let’s take a quick look at another passage. Maybe you will read these words from Romans 8: 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. 15 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” 16 For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. There’s that word, “abba,” again. Remember that? It means “daddy.” This passage is reminding us that we don’t have to fear anything in the world, BECAUSE GOD IS OUR DADDY! THOUGHTS & QUESTIONS: —1. If we put these two passages together, we discover that someone who is truly a child of God has NOTHING to fear. —2. What are some of the things you fear that you wish you didn’t? —3. One of the huge advantages of really knowing God is understanding that we don’t have to fear anyone or anything. Why is this so difficult for you? —4. True or False: Fear is the opposite of faith. PRAYER: Still using the “ACTS” acronym? Is it helping your prayer life? I hope you will use it now, as you focus on today’s passages.
