TUESDAY, 8/19/14 GOSPELS. Matthew 9:35-38 (Page 1040 in the TLASB) “Jesus. And Me!” (By Barry) WORSHIP: Wherever you are, you can come home! https://youtube/watch?v=hN-VG1uvNj4 SCRIPTURE: blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=Mat&c=9&t=NLT#s=938035 In today’s passage (which I have included below), let’s look at things a bit differently than we normally do. — For most of us, the start of school is just a few days away. So, to get us prepared, let’s have a grammar lesson! Ready? In verse 35, pick out all the verbs (action words) that describe Jesus. He: -TRAVELED to ever town and village in the area. (Jesus knew His purpose, and He pursued it!) -TAUGHT in the synagogues. (I always love to imagine this scene: The WORD of God, teaching the WORD of God!) -ANNOUNCED the good news about the KOG (Kingdom of God). (Jesus has a message. And He made sure to share it!) -HEALED every kind of sickness and disease. (Jesus has authority over EVERYTHING.) These are four great descriptions of Jesus, right? So, how do they apply to YOU? — Verse 36 gives us such a great picture. Jesus had compassion on the crowds, and they are described THREE ways: -Confused -Helpless -Sheep without a shepherd. (I don’t know about you, but that is a PERFECT description of me without Jesus! — Did you catch the two statements Jesus makes in Verse 37? -The harvest (or the potential) is ____________________. -But the workers are _____________. 35 Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. 38 So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.” PRAYER: Let’s apply verse 38, and obey Jesus by actually praying it right now! Father, you are in charge. You are the LORD. We know you want there to be a HUGE harvest. We do, too, Lord! There is an incredible harvest out there, but not enough people interested in going for it! Please send more workers, Lord-including ME! Amen!
