TUESDAY NIGHT SPORTS WRAP: It was a Bulldawg varsity sweep over Midway in Tuesday night District 8-5A play! At Bulldawg Gym, the Lady Dawgs evened their district record at 5-5 with a 65-58 win over the visiting Pantherettes. Mikayla Blount led with 16 points and Brittany Gamble was close behind with a dozen markers. Cove (15-10 overall) is fifth in the standings, with three teams ahead of them at 6-4. Ellison leads at 10-0 after last night. The Bulldawgs played at Midway and brought home a 49-41 victory, thanks in part to Rashard Odomes canning 19 points and Montre Williams adding 14 more. which resets the Dawg records at 12-13 on the season and 3-5 in district. Next up for the Copperas Cove squads is a Friday night matchup with Belton. The boys will be at home while the girls travel. Both varsity games tip off at 7 p.m. On the soccer pitch, the Lady Dawgs fell to Lampasas 1-0 in overtime. Cove coaches said Shelbie Letzer and Alex Johnson both played well. The Bulldawg boys came up on the short end of a 2-1 final at Marble Falls. Coves goal came from Andrew Chapman on an Erik Hall assist. Heres some weekend tournament results from S.C. Lee Junior High...the A teams competed in the Killeen tourney, with the eighth graders falling to Patterson 48-21 and 49-28 to Liberty Hill. Those games were sandwiched around a 40-30 win over Temple Bonham. Seventh grade action saw Lee drop a 34-32 game to eventual tournament champ Patterson. The Cougars topped Eastern Hills 42-14, followed by a 37-8 win over Rancier. In the Consolation Championship game, Lee ran by Nolan 38-8 for the trophy. At the Belton B-team tournament, the Cougar seventh graders stopped Belton Middle 32-16, but came up short 14-12 to eventual champion Lamar in the semifinals. On the eighth grade side, Lee charged through their opponents, topping Belton Middle School 36-24, followed by a 28-23 win over South Belton, which set up a title game against Lake Belton Middle School. The Cougars won 30-27 to bring home championship honors. Congratulations!
