TUFACED POLITICIANS The end of the year is usually a time of reflection on how the year was or should have been with hopes and expectations of what the new year would bring . However one shouldnt loose sleep over what was or should have been because they lies ahead is often unknown . The elections in February 2015 seems to be whats on the lips of everyone in political circles with alignment and realignment been the order of the day . The main political parties participating in these elections are the PDP and APC . Both complaining or aspiring to themselves virtues of been progressives . The word progressive was also used by Gordon Brown in his final hours in Downing Street when he tried to reach out to Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg referring to him as a fellow progressive. I have studied history and I know the future of our country is a progressive alliance between two progressive political parties is a quote from Gordon Brown Former British Prime Minister . In my quest to find out what a Progressive means I went through different definitions but one that seems to make some meaning to my youthful mind was A combination of fairness, equality, democracy and modernity. Extrapolating this to our Nigerian experience one seems to be in a quagmire of how to differentiate between we political parties in terms of both ideological differences and party manifesto . What exactly do they stand for and what and how are their cardinal objectives in seeking to be the party in the driving seat of our nation ? Daily we hear about cross carpeting or is it now called decamping and you ask yourself,is the aim just be in power or actually to make difference whether or not one is in power or political office ? Our politicians have become TUFACED politicians who are PDP in the morning,APC in the afternoon and LP at night . No ideology, no spirit of servant hood only personal and selfish motives . Rather unfortunately the youth form themselves in groups or so called council to work with or for such politicians with an overall objective of financial reward . No questions are asked as these political godfathers yield so much influence and are capable of hurting the chances of anyone aspiring for political office . I recall the activities of Former Gov. Ali Modu Sheriff in Borno State who was in ANPP but when he is in Abuja he automatically becomes a PDP member, its then not surprising to see how the whole political process is shambolic but unattractive for sensible and cerebral minds . Our politics will never witness growth and development if we allow the cross carpeting of politicians at will and a lack of internal democracy in their political party system . This idea of consensus and issues been resolved in a rather occultic and secretive means lives more to be desired . One often wonder why with so many intelligent and resourceful people in Nigeria why we still have dubious and questionable characters in our political landscape for decades often unchallenged . We have becomes subdued, insensitive and pessimistic about our future only believing in the hand of the unseen divine hand we rescue us from the parochial leadership we have found ourselves . This idea that we Nigerians are ever resilient and able to resolve every issue in the Nigerian way is not only myopic but laughable , For those TUFACED politicians hide your face in same . You have show how unclean your hands are, hence you are not welcomed at the table of equity , Thanks Dr Babatunde Tikare.
