TWO ARRESTED AFTER SHOTS FIRED AND PURSUIT SUSPECT: Samuel Jackson III B/M 04/01/1986 Charges: Failure to Stop for Blue Lights SUSPECT: Eli Blackshear B/M 09/12/1988 Charges: Unlawful Carry of Firearm Possession of a Firearm by a Felon LOCATION:11 Towne Drive, Bluffton (IHOP) (Location of Shots Fired) 262 Simmonsville Rd, Bluffton (Location of Arrest of Blackshear)Buck Island Rd and SC-26 (Location of Crash and Arrest of Jackson) On May 5, 2014, at approximately 0420Hrs, members of the Bluffton Police Department responded to the I-Hop located at 11 Towne Drive, Bluffton in reference to reports of a disturbance and shots fired in the parking lot. Upon arriving, officers observed several subjects and vehicles in the lot. As officers attempted to make contact, one vehicle, a brown Mercury sedan tried to avoid the officers in an attempt to flee. Officers with their emergency lights and siren activated attempted to stop this vehicle, however the driver, later identified as Samuel Jackson failed to stop for the blue lights and lead officers on a pursuit. The pursuit continued through Bluffton onto Simmonsville Road where the vehicle slowed in front of 262 Simmonsville Road and the passenger, later identified as Eli Blackshear exited the vehicle and began to flee on foot. After a brief foot chase Blackshear was taken into custody by officers. A pat down of Blackshear revealed he was in possession of a Colt .38 revolver firearm. The driver of the vehicle continued to flee with other officers still in pursuit. The driver, Jackson failed to negotiate a turn from Buck Island Road onto SC-46 and drove his vehicle into the ditch. Officers approached the vehicle and took Jackson into custody. With the assistance of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, Bluffton Police continued to investigate the original call at the I-Hop. It was learned that multiple witnesses heard a disturbance in the parking lot and people yelling and at least one shot fired. It is unclear at this time if anyone was injured as a result of this disturbance. Both Blackshear and Jackson are refusing to cooperate with investigators. The South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to SC-46 and Buck Island Road and worked the crash involving Jackson.
