TWO FRIENDS SENT TO THE GALLOWS FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING GEORGE TOWN, (March 7) — Two friends were sentenced to death by hanging by the Penang High Court here Friday after they were found guilty of trafficking in 59.1kg of cannabis two years ago. Judge Datuk Zamani Abdul Rahim handed down the sentence on Mohd Helmi Anuar Mohd Kassim, 34, and Rohaidi Sudin, 41, after finding that the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubts against the prosecution case. Mohd Helmi Anuar, who is a carpenter, and Rohaidi, who is a security guard, looked calm when the judge handed down the sentence. They were charged with trafficking in the drug at a premise at Kampung Merbau Kudong, Sungai Dua, in Seberang Perai Utara at 2.30pm on June 17, 2012. Prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Siti Fatimah Talib, while lawyers Mohd Ismail Mohamed and Harpal Singh Gill represented Mohd Helmi Anuar and Rohaidi, respectively.– BERNAMA
