TWO KINDS OF POOR PEOPLE: (Part 1). “He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and He will pay back what he has given. He who gives to the poor will not lack, but he who hides his eyes will have many curses.” Prov. 19: 17, 28: 27. There are two kinds of poor people: Those who are poor because they are lazy and those who are poor for valid reasons. It is very important to differentiate the two, because we are out of God’s will if we don’t somehow help the valid poor or if we ignorantly enable the lazy to keep sinning. Socialism doesn’t work. Russia proved that. If you pay people the same for being non-productive as they get for being productive, then laziness will usually win out. But there are usually scores and scores of verses on how much God loves the validly poor. He wants us to develop plans to help them. This may involve financial support, but usually it will mean providing them with better jobs and wise counsel to help them become as self-sufficient as possible. That’s what the validly poor would want anyway. The validly poor doesn’t want handouts. They are insulted by them. The lazy poor only and continuously want handouts. That’s a good way to differentiate between the two. MY OPINION: If a poor person only wants money, I may not give him any. If a poor person only wants advice, I will willingly give him money, advice and a better job if possible as well. Remain blessed.
