TYPHOON SOULIK is bearing down on Northern Taiwan and will hit Taipei, Taouyen and Hsinchu -- we live in Hsinchu. So I stopped at the supermarket for a few provisions. Have you ever been to Kroger when Memphis had a threat of 2-inches of snow? Like That. Or maybe one of those end-of-the-world movies. In Memphis everyone buys out the milk and bread; in Taiwan they buy eggs, instant noodles and cabbage. Victoria says that since Taiwanese cannot cook, noodles with eggs and cabbage is an easy meal. I once had a co-worker in Memphis (she was from Alabama) who always joked about people buying bread and milk. "When did you ever eat a milk sandwich?" she would say. Biscuits and gravy, anyone?
