Tafsir Surah Al-Adiat In this surah Allah is swearing by running horses, irrespective of whether they are the horses of the Mujahidin who are fighting in Allah’s Path or just horses in general. As they run, the sound of their panting can be heard from their tiredness. As these horses run, they strike the earth with their hooves, causing sparks to fly up as a result. These horses raid the enemies at the time of early morning, while the enemy is still asleep. The raid stirs up thick dust-clouds because of the great speed with which the horses charge. Then, the horses penetrate the middle of the enemy ranks, scattering them. Allah has sworn by the charging horses that man is ungrateful for all of the blessings of his Lord upon him. As for the disbeliever, he persists in the ingratitude and denial, but the believer is saved from this by his faith. He is also swearing that man bears witness to his own ungratefulness and his failure to fulfill Allah’s Right and that he loves the worldly life and wealth intensely. Consequently, he makes great efforts to obtain it, and he shows little gratitude to his Lord for His Blessings. Allah is warning this ungrateful man who loves wealth, of the Day in which the contents of the graves shall be poured out and all the dead inside them. Likewise, the matters hidden in the breasts will be brought out for judgement. Mankind used to think that none knows their secrets, but Allah swt shall bring it out written on pages, with the good sorted out from the evil. Furthermore, the Lord of these people who have been brought out of the graves is Well Acquainted with them. He has full knowledge concerning them, and He is able to recompense them for their deeds. Lessons and Reflections 1. Allah swt swears by the charging horses, to show their great rank, especially when they are employed for Jihad. 2. Man denies the blessings of his Lord and loves wealth with an intense love. 3. On the Day of Resurrection, the graves shall be overturned and their contents poured forth. Then, the content of the breasts will be exposed. 4. Allah swt has full knowledge of our deeds, He is Well-Acquainted with His slaves.
