Tafsir Surah Al-Feel This Surah begins with a question - TopicsExpress

Tafsir Surah Al-Feel This Surah begins with a question addressed to the Prophet (P) and then to all mankind after him. The Surah states: O Prophet (P) and O every intelligent person who comes after the Prophet (P), do you not know the story of the Owners of the Elephant? Do you know how your Lord dealt with the Abyssinians who came with their armies and their elephants to Makkah in order to destroy Allah’s House? Allah made them an example and a warning for all who come after them by destroying them down to the last man. This occurred in the year that the Prophet (P) was born, and that year came to be known as “the year of the Elephant”. This was evidence of Allah’s Might, His Power, and His Vengeance. It also indicates the great status and nobility of the Prophet (P), the sanctity of the Ka’bah in Allah’s Sight, and Allah’s great blessing upon the Quraish and upon the rest of the Arabs who respect the Ka’bah. Therefore, it is befitting for them that they should show gratitude to their Lord Who saved their revered House from the plot of the criminals. The owners of the Elephant were the Abyssinian army that was led by Abrahah who came to demolish the Ka’bah. He brought with him a great army that included elephants. Allah showed mankind a great sign when the elephants refused to go forward to demolish the Ka’bah. Allah’s Sacred House, in Makkah. Whenever they would turn them away from the House, they would move, but when they would turn them towards the House, they would refuse to budge. All of this was by Allah’s Command and His Ability. Thus Allah frustrated their plans and destroyed their plot. He rendered their efforts to tear down the Ka’bah fruitless, and the end result was that He destroyed them altogether. The question then arises: “How did Allah destroy the army of Abyssinia?” Allah unleashed birds against the army of Abrahah. They came in successive flights, one flock after another. These birds struck the army with stones of baked clay, destroying them. It left them like the remainders of crops of hay ready for animals to eat, but then the wind tosses it about. This means that they were torn apart and mixed with the earth, just like hay mixes with the earth when it is trampled by cattle. The army became arrogant and proud in its own strength, so Allah destroyed it and made it like the stubble leftover after animals eat. This is one of the greatest signs of Allah’s Ability to protect His Religion and His House and to destroy His enemies. Lessons and Reflections 1. There are certain actions of Allah in the life of mankind that are to be remembered. These are events from which lessons should be taken. 2. Even when human means are incapable of aiding Allah’s Religion, this does not mean that Allah’s Means are incapable of that. 3. The arrogant disbelievers came challenging Allah to destroy His House, so Allah demolished their power and destroyed them. 4. Allah willed that the Prophet (P) should be born in the same year that Allah saved the House so that his birth should occur at a time of good. 5. Allah always prevails in His Purpose, there is none who can overcome Him. 6. The Arabs were unable to do anything to defend the Sacred House because of their internal divisions on the one hand, and the great size of the Abyssinian army and the presence of the elephants on the other.
