Taiwan Film Series: The Terrorizers 恐怖份子 Date :2014-12-18 6:30PM~ Venue :Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles Address :1137 Westwood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90024 Director: Edward Yang(楊德昌, November 6, 1947 – June 29, 2007) Edward Yang , along with Hou Hsiao-Hsienand Tsai Ming Liang, was one of the leading film-makers of the Taiwanese New Wave and Taiwanese Cinema. He won the Best Director Award at Cannes for his 2000 film Yi Yi (A One and a Two). Yangs third feature film The Terrorizers (1986) was a complex multi-narrative urban thriller that reflected on city life and contained the crime elements and alienation themes of an Antonioni film. The film won a Silver Leopard at The Locarno International Film Festival[5] and was examined by Fredric Jameson in The Geopolitical Aesthetic. Story: Set in 1980s Taipei, the film shows three groups of complete strangers whose lives intertwine in strange ways, making for an enigmatic thriller. An idling teenager, also an amateur photographer, witnesses by chance a police raid on a gang. Excited and curious, he takes several pictures of a girl escaping from the scene.
