Take a NAME. Any name you adore. Analyse it. You will immediately come to a very SIMPLE conclusion. They stood for something and impacted the lives of the people and therefore shaped the course of history for good. The Hall of Fame of great men whose names have endured throughout the ages is littered with men who saw beyond personal comforts. They saw a dream, an idea, a purpose, and they stood for it even when they stood alone and poor. Names which inspire generations of people who read about them. You will seldom read about those who are just happy to go with the flow, steal all the can, can all they steal and sit on it. You will not read about the hordes concerned only with the concept of A sa jeun or Man must whack. Those rejects of greatness in the annals of human history are referred to with the English word A byword. Their place is reserved on the fringes, in the recesses of the part of memory which stores data associated with opprobrium and disdain. And when a society embraces the people whose gods is their bellies more than the people who stands for ideals, you have the perfect Hobbesian state. It becomes very hard for such a country to achieve greatness. Thats because the rat race only keeps the big idea to the concept of stomach infrastructure. They never get beyond the glitter of fripperies, debauchery and banal existentialism to the more salient issues of dominating the environment and pushing the boundaries for the human race. Issues of life never goes beyond the economics. Space, technology, science only means anything as long as they are at the consuming end. So, like Esau, it will always be about the morsel of porridge. Anything and everything must be sold to maintain their phoney rich lifestyle including the primogeniture. Everything is for sale. Everyone not in support is the enemy. Delayed gratification is nonsense. Vain glory is everything. Finer qualities like reflection, self appraisal, communal progress, global contribution are luxuries they can ill afford. If you dont get it. Picture this: What if the world was invaded by some extra terrestrial force and the end was imminent? What would Nigeria or much of Africa contribute? Armed Forces? Intelligence? Science? Money? Know-how? Disaster management? Space capability? Your guess is as good as mine. Go to church. But ask the Lord to show you where you fit in the human scheme of things beyond the limiting safety of the personal comforts. Footnote: Let them contribute 23 billion Naira to the one we don;t want. The contributors arent charities. They are the ones getting paid by the clueless. Just dont be fooled. All of that cash exchanging hands, should be the money which funds your education, provide good roads, or build the foundations of the Nigerian Coast Guard.................................fill in the others..... They will flood the place with that cash to buy YOUR CONSCIENCE. But remember, the day after, you and the 3 generations to come starts to pay back. Germany only this year just finished paying the World War One debts. When our parents accepted free flights on Nigeria Airways {now defunct} they never realized their offspring will pay with their lives in Sosoliso and other dodgy airlines. Those people who gave the donations arent stupid. You know what you give to the beggar on the street? Change. Now think hard and deep about that.
