Take action this Friday and Saturday to stop Herakles Farms palm oil concession. Herakles threatens one of Africas most endangered primates, the drill monkey. Meet Richard Iferi, a drill monkey rescued by Pandrillus, a conservation organisation based in Nigeria and Cameroon. Richard is seen here with keeper Peter Kekong at Drill Ranch in Nigeria. Korup National Park in Cameroon is considered vital to saving the critically endangered drill. The proposed Herakles palm oil concession in Cameroon lies near four protected areas, including Korup National Park. Environmentalists warn that the palm oil plantation will disrupt important wildlife routes between Korup National Park (to the north), Rumpi Hills Forest Reserve (south), Bakossi National Park and Banyang Mbo Wildlife Sanctuary (both to the east), essentially isolating populations and preventing them from dispersing and intermingling. Environmental groups also argue that the palm oil plantation will hurt wildlife populations in another way: by worsening the bushmeat trade, which is already a significant problem in the area.
