Take class with Artistic Director of CUMBE: Center for African and Diaspora and Master instructor of Afro-Caribbean Dance, PAT HALL!!!! This evening at 7pm (Tues. August 13) at Ronald K Brown 8th Annual Dance Workshop Series! Pat Hall, internationally acclaimed dancer, choreographer and teacher, taught and performed as a solo artist throughout Europe, and in Korea, Singapore and Senegal. Her festival performances include the International Festival of Movement Theater in Hungary, the Willisau Jazz Festival in Switzerland, the Tokyo Summer Festival, the Spoleto Festival, The Next Wave Festival and the Colorado Dance Festival. Closer to home, Pat was also a featured performer in the critically acclaimed Off-Broadway production of River Deep: A Tribute to Tina Turner and she did ritual research, staging and movement for the NYU Graduate Acting Program production of August Wilson’s Gem of the Ocean. A recipient of the New York Foundation of the Arts Fellowship in Choreography, Pat has choreographed for the Urban Bush Women and toured extensively with the company as a guest artist. In addition, she was awarded a Dance Theatre Workshop National Performance Suitcase Fund Grant, to conduct dance research in Peru, Martinique, Haiti, Jamaica, Nigeria and Benin in West Africa. Her work is noted in the books, Gestures of Genius by Rachel Vigier and The Healing Drum by Yaya Diallo and Mitchell Hall. A teaching artist and consultant for Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Dance Africa program, Pat has been an artist-in-residence at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore, and at Cornell University. Listed in New York magazine’s, “ The Best of New York,” Pat’s community dance class, currently at Mark Morris Studios (SATURDAYS 3-5pm) has been a mainstay in NYC for over a decade.
