Take my clients status update as a learning curve for pain in movement (and business). You should not have unnecessary pain during movement. Knee pain can develop from a simple under-activation of surrounding muscles. In this case, the quads were not engaging enough. Isolating exercises for quads and VMO in particular (inside thigh) eliminated the knee pain in this case and we could continue with a pain free workout and never went easy on her ha ha ha.
