Take note of the following: 1. Do not allow your parents to live - TopicsExpress

Take note of the following: 1. Do not allow your parents to live with you in the first few years of your marriage unless it becomes absolutely impossible. Those are foundational years that will never be relived. They may visit, but not live with you! What if there is no other place for them to stay? Get your other siblings and rent a house for them and visit them there. Your marriage needs all the protection. There will be some exceptions like health issues, or you could be the only child and you don’t have enough financial strength to rent a house for them. Yes they might have to live with you in such cases but extreme caution should be exercised so that they won’t end up putting a wedge between you and your spouse. There have been some few cases where the parents live with the couple and there were no issues. This would be as a result of continual maturity on the part of the couple and the parent or in-law involved. 2. If you already have you parents or in-laws living with you and there are issues, it does not mean you should send you parents packing right away! Resolving the issue and organising their exit must be done with a lot of wisdom and patience. In all of these, you must maintain your respect for your in- laws. That is absolutely important! 3. Whatever advice they give you must be discussed with your spouse before you implement it. If you don’t, that will be a breach of the marital covenant....
