Todays reason why Im proud to call myself a liberal: Fighting back against income inequality. I recently heard several Republicans talking about how liberals supposedly want a cashier to make the same amount of money as a CEO. Needless to say, that isnt even close to the real and serious crisis we are trying to address. The problem isnt that a cashier doesnt make the same as a CEO, its that cashiers are making less and less and less, while the CEO is making more & more. Conservatives have done such a tremendous job over the past few decades restructuring our tax code, minimum wage policies, and other tools for individual economic growth, to the point where it has become it nearly impossible for someone in the middle class to raise themselves up further. And its even worse for someone born into a low-income family to ever escape the blockades that have been placed in front of them. So while rich White men lament about the lazy moochers on welfare, the rest of us who see the reality of todays world must continue the fight to expand education and overturn the conservative policies that have eliminated even the possibility of the American dream for so many of us. We can not stop until we once again reached the point where someone who is willing to put in the work has the possibility of achieving their goals.
