Take note....this is about the math standards specifically. Ive mentioned many times that the elementary schools claim to not see much changing as far as common core is concerned. As I have stated in the past, and as the math educator specialist in this article confirms, the true effects of common core standards will not be seen until middle school and by high school, forget it. However, 4th grade Shawnee parents...we have started seeing it with math, but its still doable. Just wait... From where I sit professionally and watch as this unfolds, what Ive been saying, and this math prof confirms, is whats happening. They will be community college ready...once we are forced to lower our standards, too. We will have to unless our developmental population explodes, and my job always involves finding ways to shorten the developmental sequence in order to keep our two year degree mantra. Ive established one method, but the student population who partake in this method will explode in upcoming years based on common core standards, not shrink, unless we, too, lower our standards. In any event, community colleges will act as a filter for those who will then make it at a 4 year school. This has been my point since the first language/arts summit the college hosted about 3 years ago. Ive been told we will never lower our standards, Im a right wing whack job, Im racist, I hate poor people, how can I consider myself a teacher....of course, thats all ad hominem BS to avoid the issue...mon core is about power and crony capitalism, not the children. Only the best will be allowed to survive....and the state will make tons of money in the process. WHY wont people wake up and see this? Truth hurts, I guess, but this is so important and such a game changer.....
