“Take under advisement” Romans 1:21 – Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful … (KJV) Many Christians treat God like he’s an attorney and not as THE JUDGE for all eternity. An attorney will cite cases that have already been adjudicated and are now case law as setting the precedent for his argument. When he finishes the judge will say “I will take this under advisement.” IOW, I will take your citations as “advice to be considered” in making my decision. Isn’t that how we treat God? We will take the Bible, which contains “eternal case law” and take it “under advisement” instead of taking it for what it truly is – the final authority. We take the Bible “under advisement” because we don’t see the Bible like THE JUDGE sees it – as the standard by which we are to live our lives. Now for those of you who believe the Bible was written by men, men with flaws, men with agendas – you’ve just made my point. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 – All scripture is given by inspiration of God (God breathed or spoken from the very lips of God), and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (Why?) That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. 2 Peter 1:20-21 – Knowing this first that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake AS THEY WERE MOVED by the Holy Ghost. The men who “wrote” the Bible did not write the Bible. Remember the old black and white movies where the company president would summon his secretary and tell her to “take a letter to Mr. Jones”? He would talk and she would write it down. The secretary didn’t determine the content of the letter; the company president did. The men who penned the Bible didn’t determine its content; the Holy Spirit did. They simply wrote what they were told to write. (They certainly didn’t take what the Holy Spirit said “under advisement.”) Are you taking the Bible (God’s word) “under advisement” or are you treating it like “eternal case law.” Adam and Eve took God’s word “under advisement.”
