Taken few summers back, the story never gets old though :) and my grandfather (visiting from Becker, MN) has the fish story of a life time! He is the one that hooked the fish, we figured it was a skate as it wasnt giving much of a fight, just dead weight. BUT after my dad took over to help him reel it up to surface he came to the conclusion the line was rapped around the anchor, my grandfather held the pole as my dad and i pulled up the anchor(we could feel something moving around) so we got the anchor up and following just behind is this MONSTER halibut!! we all got so excited! The fish seemed to know what was coming and took off straight back down to the bottom... A good hour of fighting with it we took control- it was to big to put on the deck without the fish hurting someone. So, my dad made a noose and hog tied the fish to the back of our boat!!we drove a ways and let it bleed out and about halfway back to the harbor we heaved it on bored!! As we returned to the harbor with our monster catch- Lots of men frowned and scolded us for keeping it- saying the meats going to be bad, or we just killed off half of next years catch...BUT the meat was great :) we ate every last chunk...and no..we did not have a derby ticket ;p
