Taken from "The Panel Interview", in response to a question from the interviewee... ‘Well … as it happens … I designed our own interview matrix … and … well … we write a number between 1 and 10 depending on how we rate your answer … this way the applicant with the highest score will most probably get the job.’ Then suddenly the truth hits you—they’ve spent all this time trying to quantify your ability by reducing it to a numeric value—a numeric value with set parameters that offers no room for personality, or initiative, or commonsense—and your (obviously) wrong answer about ‘prioritising’ will put your ‘key selection criteria’ out of contention.
