Taken from the Save our Ambulance Services page... Were right behind you, guys! Dear Mr Hunt, I understand you have recently made comments telling the Paramedics and other frontline staff of the ambulance services that a strike could cause serious harm or loss of life at this time of unprecedented pressure on the NHS. Now I realise you have an election coming up and avoiding regular strikes has to be right up there on the top of your priorities what with your popularity being that of a leech, but I have some bad news for you. Firstly we are all acutely aware of this fact as we happen to do our job every day under more and more extreme pressures. We are seeing patients waiting ever longer for an ambulance and the life saving/changing treatment it can bring and we know the consequences of when it doesnt arrive in a timely manner. We have all been there. Secondly you arent the first person to try this tactic. It has been employed by senior managers for years who have tried the tugging of heart strings approach and I think we are probably much better placed than yourself to deal with comments like these in this situation. Unfortunately the good will we were all running on to get through the day has run out and with you being Health minister and all the accountability has to lay at your door. Its not all your fault, the Ambulance services of the UK have been heading for this disaster for years, poor management at a senior level has left us all over worked and the service under funded, there is no more to give and staff rightly have had enough and the public supports us too. The fact that your broken promises of no funding cuts for the NHS have lead us to a situation where staff cannot stand a job they once loved is a real issue and one you and your party have to take on the chin come election time. We all know many of you have links to big business who want to get in on the healthcare game, many feel you are running it down to allow them in cheaply. Who knows? What I do know is that we have all had enough. Our pay and conditions are being eroded, we are expected to do more for less and the best experienced staff are now getting up and walking out the door because it is an impossible job to do long term now. The Ambulance Service can be saved, but not with threats and guilt trips. Real sensible policies to improve the situation a proper plan for a service that is truly world class. I dont think you really want to know though do you. All the best for the election, I dont think youll be getting many votes from NHS staff.
