Taking a brief break at the hotel. Ive only come here once daily to pick up changes of clothes and to eat. Ive been here ten minutes and I already miss Stan. Hes fine. Dopey from pain meds, but dandy. Of all of the people in ICU, he looks light years better than others. He is restless, chatty (amusingly so since hes drugged), and sleepy all in one. Hes even gotten feisty and snippy with me a few times and its so out of the norm of what Im used to with him that I end up laughing when he does it. Imagine a drunk, snippy person and thats what hes been like off and on. I cant help it, hes silly! And then you get these moments of Stan brilliance: when his brother asked him what frequency one of the monitors was beeping at and Stan replied with the Hz level and the note of the tone. Probably the hardest thing for me is when he asks for ice chips or a drink. He cant eat or drink for 7ish days, so its tough. Just have to keep swabbing his mouth with a damp sponge to keep him comfy, but I feel so bad when he asks. This morning he walked for the first time since his surgery and did a lap around the ICU with the assistance of a nurse and walker. Just a little while ago, he walked to and from the bathroom without leaning on anything. BIG change! His strength has grown leaps and bounds in one day. No more racing heart moments since this morning. His body seems to be balancing out already. What a tough, strong guy. I continue to be amazed by him. As for me, I got several hours of sleep overnight and got a shower for the first time this morning. Amazing what some sleep and a shower does! Well, time to head back to da man! #TeamStanStrong
