Taking five days to explore the northwest of the Olympic Peninsula, a place Ive never been although its within a few hours drive (and a short ferry) of where I live. Beautiful place, give or take the yard or two of rain that falls every day. Im staying three nights at a wide spot on US 101 called Forks, which unbeknownst to me before I got here is the setting for that nauseous tween Vampire shit show Twilight. And boy, do they ever remind you of it. My motel has a Bella Suite for an extra 50 bucks a night if youre completely brain damaged. Dropped into the local (and only pub) and discovered that I dont own enough camo fleece or Seahawks gear to fit in, although they did have a reasonable selection of craft beers on tap. Made the mistake of mentioning baseball to some local cretin who proceeded to bore me speechless with his analysis (I use the word in its broadest possible application) of why the Mariners are a mortal lock for the World Series in 2015. Firstly, theyre already better than any team in the American league. Then theyre going to sign Lester, trade for a couple more stud pitchers, and sign a big free agent bat. 108 wins, guaranteed. Kill me now.
