Talking to a young Syrian peace activist today, the Kurdish women fighters came up in conversation. He told me that as his family was fleeing Aleppo, they passed through one of the Kurdish villages on their way to the Turkish border. He met one of the women, and asked, What are you fighting for? Dont you think youre too young to die? You have your whole life ahead of you. Why dont you try to escape like us? She asked him how old he was. He replied, Im 17. She said, Im 41, and I have two children. I dont care about my age. I dont fight for myself. I fight for them. God help the people of Syria and Iraq. I dream of a day when this all will end.
