Tamara van Gaalen Just had a conversation with another mum when I dropped my kids to daycare and she was telling me that her primary school kid picks up her friends preppy kid and they walk together to the front gate where she picks them both up. Last week the preppy came to her, white as a ghost and said that a man tried to grab her in the school grounds. The mother rang the school but the school said they were too busy to deal with it that day as they had to deal with 2 boys fighting. She then rang them numerous times and the school on one occasion said that it wont issue an alert as they think the girl is lying and they dont want to cause a panic and now they wont return her calls. I think this is so wrong and I would be pissed if I found out a child said they had been grabbed and the school didnt alert me regardless of if it is true or not! Tamara van Gaalen All they needed to say was we have been informed by a parent that their prep child has said they were grabbed by a man in the school grounds. We & the police are currently investigating these claims but in the mean time there is no cause for alarm. Please use this opportunity to speak to your children of stranger danger and to make sure they are never alone and to say in groups. or something to that effect. Yesterday at 9:09am via mobile · Like · 4.. Kirsten Rennie Omg what school is that? I would not care if it was true or not. The preppy needs to be heard and an alert notice given. Better to be safe than sorry. Yesterday at 9:09am via mobile · Like · 2.. Amber Hockley I would march in there and go absolutely berserk! THEN change schools immediately! That is disgraceful Yesterday at 9:09am via mobile · Like · 2.. Michelle Rixon kids that age dont tend to lie about things like that. It may of been a totally innocent occurrence but it should be looked at Yesterday at 9:11am · Like · 2.. Julie-Anne Spilios Not acceptable, too busy. How many teachers are there at one school. Surely someone could have attended to this. Its too late when a child is abducted and missing.... Yesterday at 9:12am · Like · 1.. Tamara van Gaalen She is changing schools now. She is furious. It was Burnside. Im not sure on all the detail of what happened but regardless of if they think the girl is lying, just issue a safety message. What would it hurt? Yesterday at 9:13am via mobile · Like · 1.. Julie-Anne Spilios It doesnt matter if it is a mistake, better to be safe than sorry.....good on this mummy for protecting her baby...gosh what is our world coming to... Yesterday at 9:15am · Like · 2.. Kirsten Rennie I dont think its just an issue of a safety message, although that is very serious. What kind of educator does not listen to their students in such a serious matter. I too would take my kids out if they went to burnside. Yesterday at 9:17am via mobile · Like · 2.. Julie-Anne Spilios There are teachers, and there are passionate caring teachers...off to mow my lawn before it gets too hot...hope the little one is ok...a preppy is about 4 yrs old...wouldnt stand a chance to a crazy preditor...and dont forget, we have 3500 pedos living on the sunny coast...scary stuff... Yesterday at 9:24am · Like · 1.. Amber Hockley 3500 on the coast? Jesus Christ thats horrifying! Yesterday at 9:25am via mobile · Like · 2.. Deb Spruyt perhaps ring the police straight away Yesterday at 9:26am · Like · 2.. Tamara van Gaalen She did and the police were rude apparently. Said to the mum if you parents knew what actually went on on the coast, youd never let your kids out of your sight or something to that effect. Like I said, not sure on the whole story (only had a 5 min chat this morning) but the police did patrol the school I believe... Yesterday at 9:31am via mobile · Like · 1.. Amber Hockley Whaaaat?! The cops said that to a mother worried about someone grabbing her prep child?! What the hell is wrong with people!!!! Yesterday at 9:32am via mobile · Like · 1.. Deb Spruyt so if I had kids going to school ... I would now be keeping a strong eye on them plus talking to them (no actually telling them) about stranger danger and telling them to keep inside the school grounds till I picked them up. F#cken creeps out there, bullet to the head Yesterday at 9:35am · Like · 1.. Michelle Rixon it was possibly a father or male teacher that stopped her and she didnt recognise them but that shouldnt matter. The incident obviously frightened her. I still remember my friends father offering me a lift home in kindergarten and it frightened me. I didnt see him very often and I didnt recognise the car because it was new. My friend wasnt around, she was still in class. I told him straight I dont take lifts from strangers. It upset him too. He actually started spending more time with us kids Yesterday at 9:44am · Like · 1.. Matthew Payne And the cops worry about bikies??? That many pedos walk these streets its not funny. Yesterday at 9:47am via mobile · Like · 4.. Amanda Gardner I find it really worrying that no one even made the effort to quickly react. The school is breaching their duty of care towards that child for not reacting immediately. I think this is a story for Today Tonight or one of those shows. What if another kid gets nabbed tomorrow by the predator and it could have been prevented from quick reacting people. A kid that age does not make shit like this up. So I really really think report this to the Assistant Commissioner for the Northern Region of QPS His name is Clem ORegan. That is the Sunshine coast area. Get all the facts about who the copper was and exactly what was said and report it to this person. They will have to react on it Yesterday at 9:54am · Like · 7.. Deb Spruyt bullshit! police do care, they have a shit job but they are there when we really really need them, accidents, murders, domestics etc etc dont mark all police with the same brush Yesterday at 10:04am · Unlike · 6.. Teresa Gane Why arent these parents picking up there Prep child? I still walk into the school to collect my 3 children & they are year 5, year 3 & year 1. Although it is absolutely DISGUSTING to think that the school did nothing. I hope the little one is ok, poor baby. Yesterday at 10:06am via mobile · Like · 1.. Shannon Morris I know deb but they do it to us anyone driving a hotted up car gets treated like a criminal even normal cops dont like traffic cops 23 hours ago via mobile · Like.. Ken Murray Deb u are right police do car officers on the coast are pretty good particularly with protection of children. It not them the police do all they can. I have lots of police friends but the problem lies with the ridiculous laws they deal with. Ive seen one police officer in duty nearlt pulling his hair out litetally unable to asist cause of stupid laws. 23 hours ago via mobile · Unlike · 3.. Shannon Morris I dont hate cops though I believe we need them just hate all these new laws and its not really there fault just the ones who think there judge Dread 23 hours ago via mobile · Like · 1.. Ken Murray Yep shannon morris on the nail we have good cops there just lost sheep chased by a bull dog. The best bit now take ur concerns to the justice dept they will blame police police will blame justice justice will blame pollies see no one is in charge. They make rules and rules to suit themselves. 23 hours ago via mobile · Like · 1.. Tamara van Gaalen Teresa, the older child picks up the younger child from class then they meet the mother at the gate, I believe. 22 hours ago via mobile · Like.. Leonie Ensing Its not the parents fault its the predatory monsters tht wreak any chance parents try to give their kids a little bit of independence. Kids need independence to make choices, feel confident. Thats my opinion anyways. Did this parent ring the cops? Or did he let the school handle it? 22 hours ago via mobile · Like · 3.. Tamara van Gaalen The parent rang the police. 22 hours ago via mobile · Like.. Marlene Payne I would be calling the police not the school. And I would be changing schools also contacting today tonight, a currant affair and the education department. 21 hours ago via mobile · Like · 5.. Teresa Gane Whats more important for a young child? Feeling safe, or feeling independent? This poor child may now suffer severe anxiety every time the afternoon bell goes. I do feel for the parents, please understand that too. If this happened to 1 of my children, I wouldnt stop until the school did something about it! The way they spoke to the Mum is appalling & as for the police, havent they learnt? I dont give a shit what their laws say, this is a child for goodness sake. 21 hours ago via mobile · Like · 3..
