Tamim Iqbal has chosen to play in the Caribbean Premier - TopicsExpress

Tamim Iqbal has chosen to play in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) over the Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) this year. The left handed batsmen made the decision in light of the future of the SLPL being uncertain, with Sri Lanka’s sports minister recently being quoted in a local newspaper as saying that the franchise owners were thinking of “pulling out” due to having incurred losses in the first edition. “If the situation is like that, it’s better for me to confirm the CPL,” Tamim told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday. The SLPL and CPL are scheduled to clash this year. The CPL will start ahead of the Sri Lankan tourney and a player participating in CPL can only join the SLPL after completing duty in the Caribbean. This would leave CPL players available for the second round of the SLPL, but the current situation of the latter tournament has left many cricketers confused. Tamim explained, “I wished to play SLPL as I was there last year. But the tournament has become unlikely and thus, I am looking forward to the CPL. “The playing condition there will be different, so I am looking forward to bagging experience from the tournament,” he added. Tamim and national all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan were picked to play in the CPL in the players draft on Wednesday. Tamim was bought by Saint Lucia from Pool B, while Shakib was taken by Barbados from Pool A.
