Tanzania started to engage on REDD+ issues after signing a Letter of Intent (April 2008) with the Government of Norway in which the latter agreed to provide some technical and financial support to help Tanzania start the process of REDD+ readiness by implementing associated activities as agreed during COP 13. Tanzania now receives also financial support through the UN REDD Programme. Tanzania anticipates that REDD+ will be a major breakthrough for achieving sustainable forest management (SFM) in the country and a reliable and predictable source of funding to help Tanzania secure SFM in her over 13 million hectares of Territorial, Local Authorities and Village or Community Forest Reserve
