Tao Study Group – Judith and Andre de Zanger Come explore the philosophy and poetry of the Tao. The Tao means one’s “Way, Journey, or Path”. It was set down in 600 B.C.E. by Lao Tzu in 81 poems called the “Tao Te Ching” (the Ching means the Book or Classic, the Tao - Way or Path, and Te – Virtue, Self-Cultivation or Excellence). So the “Tao Te Ching” could be described as “The Classic Way to Self-Cultivation”. The Tao poems contain a philosophy that focuses on one’s inner spirit. The poems contain many ideas: Being in the Moment, Spontaneity, Effortless Action (Wu Wie), Enjoying the Journey, the Importance of Nothingness, Listening to your own Inner Way, and the Beauty of the Integration of Opposites (Yin and Yang). We will read and discuss poems from various translations of the Tao, including our books The Tao of Creativity and The Tao of Living on Purpose. We invite participants to bring their own copies of the Tao for comparison, but this is optional. No experience with the Tao is necessary. Please bring paper and pencil to write with. They are passionate about spreading both tools and techniques for innovative thinking and the creative spirit in business, life and relationships. They both fell in love with the Tao Philosophy and have read many translations. This led to their writing their own version of the Tao, which is published as The Tao of Living on Purpose.
