Tararua District Council 15 mins · TOTAL FIRE BAN IMPOSED IN TARARUA The Tararua District Council Rural Fire Authority in conjunction with the Department of Conservation will impose a total fire ban within the District with effect 8.00am, Monday, 26 January 2015. The fire ban coincides with the ban imposed by the Central Hawkes Bay Rural Fire Authority which comes into effect at the same time. Information from our rural fire weather stations shows that the fire danger level is currently at “Extreme”. There is also a large amount of dry fuel such as long grass within the District which poses a major threat. The spell of fine weather is set to continue well into February and conditions are tinder dry out there. The total fire ban covers both the town and rural areas of the district along with all Department of Conservation land. The situation will continue to be monitored daily by our Rural Fire Officers and the total fire ban will be lifted as soon as it is considered safe to do so.
