Tarigami asks Govt to apologize, Greater Kashmir Srinagar, Sep 10: Communist Party of India-Marxist on Tuesday demanded a judicial inquiry into the Shopian incident in which four persons were killed in CRPF firing last Saturday. The party’s state wing hit out at the government asking it to apologize over the innocent killings. “These killings are heinous and condemnable. Had the State Government acted in 2010 and booked men in uniform involved in civilian killings, a message would have gone through. But now it (killings) have become a routine,” said CPI-M State Secretary MY Tarigami, at a press conference here. “We demand an open apology from the State Government over the killings and ask it to order a time-bound judicial inquiry into the incident to bring the facts to fore.” On Monday police said three out of four youth killed in the CRPF firing - Tawseef Ahmad Bhat of Baba Mohalla Shopian, Muhammad Yousuf Sofi of Durpora, Zainapora, Shopian and Tariq Ahmad Mir of Wukai, Kulgam – were civilians and had no previous record of militancy. The police claimed that the fourth slain person was a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant. “Even inquiries conducted have not yielded anything and have lost credibility. But we are left with no other option than to demand enquiry,” Tarigami said who represents Kulgam constituency in State Assembly. The Shopian and Kulgam towns and their adjoining villages are under continuous curfew for the past four days after the incident took place on Saturday last. “The only answer with the Government to deal with these situations is to clamp down curfew and cage people,” Tarigami said. He said Police and CRPF, from day one issued “contradictory statements” over the killings. “Police should lodge an FIR into the incident and culprits should be booked,” Tarigami demanded. The leftist state leader criticized government for continuing with its “curfew policy” in Shopian and Kulgam towns. “Curfew and arrests are no solution to the problem,” he said.
