#Tasmania #Weather #SevereWarning #TAS #Corp Severe Weather Warning for abnormally high tides for people in the East Coast and South East forecast districts Issued at 11:34 am EST on Tuesday 24 June 2014. Weather Situation A broad area of low pressure lies over Tasmania and will persist for the remainder of the day. Abnormally high tides which may cause sea water flooding of low lying areas are forecast for the South East forecast district and parts of the East Coast forecast district this evening. High tide will be around 6pm. The tides at Hobart are currently 40 to 50cm above the predicted astronomical tide height due to low air pressure and a sea level anomaly about Tasmanian waters. The State Emergency Service and Tasmania Police advise that people should: Supervise children closely Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings Manage pets and livestock Be prepared in case of power outages Do not walk, ride or drive through flood waters Listen to the ABC radio or check ses.tas.gov.au for further advice For flood and storm emergency assistance, contact the SES on 132 500 The next warning will be issued by 5:00 pm EST Tuesday. This warning is also available through TV and Radio broadcasts; the Bureaus website at bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 216. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate this warning being broadcast regularly.
