Tasmanias labor party today released its cultural plan forthe state It includes: Labor will build on Tasmania’s existing strengths in the arts and creative industries by investing in the sector to encourage growth and innovation. We will drive a greater understanding of the scope and economic potential of this important industry, encourage new collaborations and support new entrants to the sector. Cultural Policy for Tasmania A re-elected Labor Government will continue the development and implementation of a comprehensive Cultural Policy for Tasmania. Funding Boost for Events and Festivals A re-elected Labor government will boost events funding by $6 million and develop a statewide Events Strategy in consultation with stakeholders and the tourism industry. Seed Funding for Tasmanian Creative Industries Council Labor will provide $200,000 to support the establishment of the Tasmanian Creative Industries Council as the peak body for the cultural and creative industries. Bringing The Kettering Incident to Tasmania A re-elected Labor Government will provide $1 million to enable the new Foxtel/BBC series, The Kettering Incident, to be filmed in Tasmania. This will inject $5 million into the Tasmanian economy and create 100 new jobs for Tasmanians. Support for Tasmania’s Cultural Icons A re-elected Labor Government will work to make the full transformation of the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery a reality and continue its support for other creative icons including the TSO and the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery. Cultural and Creative Industries Precinct A re-elected Labor Government will establish a formal Cultural and Creative Industries Precinct in the centre of Hobart from Wapping to the Waterfront and fund a $50,000 study into future opportunities to develop the Precinct. Digital Strategy for Screen Tasmania A re-elected Labor Government will invest $250,000 to enable first stage implementation of a Digital Strategy for Screen Tasmania. New Creative Collaboration Grants A re-elected Labor Government will provide $250,000 for one-off collaborations that include cultural and creative industries practitioners. Other parties have been approached for their policies which will also be promoted here in the interests of fairness.
