Almeida and many other human rights advocates have taken part in recent protests regarding the disappearance of 43 students in Iguala, Guerrero state, Mexico. The students’ disappearance, and the failure to make progress in the case, has ignited protests across Mexico and the region, and has backed Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto into a corner. The parents of those missing students point to the political responsabilities of Peña Nieto and the lack of results.
