Te Ra Rangatira, TRT, the kaupapa that Ive been on this year. This chick is Kiritapu Lindsay - this funny, brainy as, skateboarding, roller derbying, observant, sitting in the corner, adventurous, caring, big hearted, little spit ball of Mataatua Waka Tauranga Moana (Pirirākau eh?) fires... oh, and shes also a lawyer. This is her speaking at the Festival for the Future about how this kaupapa came to be. But it wasnt even the things listed above that connect all of us together, especially her and I. It was Waipatu, being on Te Matau a Māui, it was connecting through Tāne Mahuta (me) and Tangaroa (her). It was also for all the mahi she done on our claims when she was rolling with all our hapū. We connected through sharing our stories - mine all about the creatures of Tāne and hers about her adventures across Tangaroa. This is how we defined our whakapapa back in the days. Through ensuring our inter-tribal links are maintained - hence the importance of knowing how to link to different iwi, be that through knowing tipuna links, or through knowing pūrākau, pakiwaitara, mōteatea, and all the other kōrero that has been passed down through varying art forms.
